Signature verified by comparison with a letter from Gordon Wordsworth to to Emma Clark Abraham of Swarthmoor Hall, Ulverston, dated June 1931. From the private library of Gordon G Wordsworth (1860 – 1935), grandson of the Lakes poet William Wordsworth and purchased from the sale of Wordsworth’s library at ‘Stepping Stones’ (formerly Spring Cottage) Rydale, Ambleside on 9/4/1970. The property was owned by William Wordsworth’s son, also William (1810–1883), from 1881, and was in the family until 1935. The library stayed intact in the building until the property and its contents were auctioned in 1970.
