Summer Reading
May I introduce you to one of my heroes when I was a child - Pippi Longstocking!
Pippi Longstocking (Swedish: Pippi Långstrump) is a fictional main character in a series of children's books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. The character was named by Lindgren's daughter Karin, who requested a story while she was recovering from illness.
Pippi is depicted as a red-haired child with freckles, known for her unconventional behaviour and exceptional strength for her age and size—she is described as being able to lift her horse with one hand! Pippi is also the daughter of a buccaneer captain who has experienced various adventures at sea.

I followed Pippi as she got involved in lots of adventurous scrapes, and had boundless energy. I also loved how she was always true to herself and had a great sense of fun. I too was a young girl with red hair, and a Dad who had served in the Merchant Navy; getting up to lots of ‘high jinks’ whilst crossing the oceans! So you can see why she was on of my childhood heroes.
We have a beautiful gift edition of Pippi Longstocking adventures, illustrated by Lauren Child. So if you love collecting great children's stories, and/or you would like to gift it to a special young person in your life, then do come and see us; you too can enjoy summer with Pippi, her friends, a horse, and a monkey in these entertaining stories!
