Season's Readings...Chapter 2

Season's Readings...Chapter 2

Last week I promised that this week I would write about “A Warming Winter Read of First Love”. However, I enjoyed the book that I am featuring, so much that I just couldn't resist not writing about it first. And it is still about love; it's just the furry ‘purry’ kind!

So, this week's book is another one published by a writer who lives in Grange. Claire Entwistle is also a life-long lover of all things feline - hence her new title, ‘A Life Told in Cats’; a memoir of the many cats that she has known and lived with since childhood.

Having recently read it, I can, with hand on heart, say that Claire's book is real snuggle-down Christmas read for fellow cat lovers.  For me, 'A Life Told in Cats' truly is……

  • A very warm and tender memoir
  • Makes you smile with a shared understanding of how much our cats mean to us - even when we don't want to admit it.
  • Life, love, loss and joy resonate throughout each chapter
  • Reflects the myriad of styles with which our feline friends communicate with us
  • Asks the question, ‘did we choose them or did they choose us?’
  • A jolly good read and a place to escape from the outside world for a wee while
  • A reminder of how wonderfully mysterious puss cats are, and how they always seem to know what we are thinking and what we are about to do.  For example, even when he is outside, my Felix always knows when I am changing the bed sheets or doing the ironing, so much so that in seconds, he races through the cat flap to sit triumphantly on nice, clean and/or warm sheets! I don't do these jobs on any one set day or time, so how does he know?

So, if you too fancy reading Claire's book and/or getting it for someone who loves cats, then please come and visit us in the shop.  They are £6.00 per copy and a great value ‘Christmas stocking filler’.

Next time, “A Warming Winter Read of First Love”…promise!

In the meantime, stay warm and enjoy a ‘purrry festive season’
